I arrived on Cayman Brac in the Cayman Islands on May 20, 2004. By the end of the month, I had submitted the plans for the house I’m building, accepted shipping delivery of a variety of household items, built a circular driveway, and laid out the location of the building site.
I also identified numerous items that I should have brought with me to the island:
- Keys (Yes, I left my car keys, apartment keys, shed key, and mailbox key in Texas)
- Computer files (Definitely should have brought copies of my websites and e-mail...)
- Face cloths and towels (What was I thinking???)
- Almond extract (None to be found for sale on this island. Horrors!)
- A cookie scoop (And of course two are hanging in my kitchen at home...)
- My garlic mincer (That’s the thing I’m most distraught over.)
Ah, well. I’ve existed 11 days without them. Perhaps it’s a sign that simplicity is not such a bad thing after all!
